Walker Bay is a small wine region located 90 km east from Cape Town in the Western Cape wine area of South Africa reputed for the fine and elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc alongside with the national grape Pinotage. Walker Bay is of the coolest wine regions in the country in terms of climate which is extremely maritime influenced with long, sunny summers which are cooled by the ocean breezes that come from the south-east. The cold current from the nearby Atlantic Ocean guarantees these breezes are cold enough to refresh the grapes during the ripening season, which is very important for prolonging it and in that way the grapes can concentrate more flavours. The reputation of the region is increasing by the minute, and some very promising wines are expected in the future.
